Estimating the Basic Reproductive Number for Omicron Outbreak in Hangzhou, China

Since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in 2019, the epidemic is still raging around the world, and human life safety and health are facing a major threat. To quantify the transmission rate and severity of the Omicron epidemic in the early stage of Hangzhou, based on the epidemic data of Hangzhou in China from March 25, 2022 to April 26, 2022, we applied multiple mathematical formulas to directly calculate the basic reproductive number (R_0) and effective reproductive number (R_e). This is of great significance for retrospectively evaluating the transmission ability of Omicron virus, observing the development of the epidemic situation, as well as analyzing the effectiveness of prevention and control of Omicron virus in Hangzhou.
